birth of the Onion Chair

The main inspiration for our chair was actually Kenneth Cobonpue's Yoda chair (below), because aside from the fact that it blends with our whole Nature-concept (read about the exhibit here), it literally looks like grass popping out of the ground. coolness!

Sketching

we took a lot of time figuring out what we really wanted for our furniture. this was actually sketched in NCTEX 2 hours before looking for potential suppliers... and after talking to many, thank God we found one that doesn't require us to pay a fortune, and was confident to assure us it would finish production in less than three weeks!

The Framing

 

i wasn't really sure how the chair would look like (that time), cos i find the framing too large at a 60cm diameter. so i placed it in front of a table and thought, hey, it doesn't look that bad... and remembered the reason we did a 60cm is because its not ONLY meant as a dining chair, but as an accent lounge chair as well :)

i'm really happy with the result! *beams* it was for me, a MAKE or BREAK piece in our booth cos i had no idea it would look this nice :) (considering the limited time of designing and production :) and if you happen to drop by the exhibit, or is interested with this chair, we're actually selling it :)

"Nouvelle VIe"

this is our booth from the exhibit :) taken by a real good friend/ fellow designer classmate, John Daniel Garcia.

Nouvelle Vie, French for New Life.

A Scandinavian Dining Room inspired by Nature crafted from recycled plastics (which is 60% of the room) to prove the material's potential to be used as a Luxe and Eco-friendly material.

what we wanted people to feel when they go to our room is that, one could actually feel warm and cozy inside a room that is mostly composed of plastics. combining it with natural materials like wood, stones, rattan, and other organic elements and muting the colors to highlight and play with the material' shadows and textures.

what every girl should have... four-poster bed :)

i had been keeping this picture for more than a year now, looking at it during my five-to-eight hours of drawing/drafting/making plates, someday wishing it will all be over, and that there would be a bed this beautiful, waiting for me, as i go to my deep slumber... :)

but that never happened. 

and no matter how much i love my bed now (i really do), i still want a four-poster! i don't know, there's something pretty romantic to it that i can never let go of... it has always been my obsession that i always included it in my design homework...

guestroom in Tagaytay rest house. two single beds with drapes, and a daybed as main seating/extra bed space)

and even converted an old bed i found at home to make as a daybed for our Furniture & Style subject (mar 2010).

(i really wanted to paint this bed, but my mom didn't allow me cos its made of natural Narra wood)

so maybe, i really do need to have one made :) or rather, pursue my sister-in-law to have theirs made into one just so i can get over it (and if they're not at home, i can just sneak into their room and sleep there! haha) or just admire, and keep the photos again... for my next home (when?!)

anyway, enough dreaming. it was a long day, goodnight :)

Opening Night

all the Hard work has finally paid off :)

the opening was a Success! and we can't be more than happy to have finally shown It (our work of art) to our benefactors (parents lol), friends, and sponsors :)

our Exhibit is finally OPEN for Public Viewing :)

Will be having our Opening Night for the Exhibit later, and everyone's too excited to show all the hard work (finally) to our guests/parents :) A lot of students, me included, are sick at the moment, but we can't afford to miss the show :)

Press Day for Exhibit

can finally sit down and relaaaaax... for a while :) 

construction's done!

whew. can you imagine us cleaning and hauling for the past 48 hours with only four hours of sleep? 

like, literally sweeping/wiping the floor, carrying furniture, glass, tables, flower arrangement, anything! like zombies!
 and this is me sitting in our lounge chair (hoping i don't look that all sweaty :)

PSID Exhibit Progress Part One

Made this video last week to show people where I've been hiding these past few weeks :)

Exhibit Progress. Week 3 ++

whew! i can't believe it's almost a month now since the start of construction. we started working in this venue that was originally a warehouse/ storage house and now the progress is unbelievable! anyway, back to our booth...

as i've mentioned before, the theme of our exhibit is Sustainability.

and we're assigned to create a Dining Room that is 60-80% made of Plastic!

i know right?

Plastic?

but here's the progress so far :)

 i'm really happy how the mural has turned out :) it's so refreshing, and the logs i think fits perfectly too. we're trying to create a space that doesn't literally look like "the plastic booth", we want people to stop and guess for a while what our booth theme is.

so we made our design, Earth Friendly - Nature Inspired, to contradict how plastics are perceived as something that is unfriendly to the environment... mmm

 

and having installed these ceiling design made of PVC is actually a breather... YEAH. its THAT crucial you.could.kill.yourself.anytime. :p
